Homegrown and other Poems. By Bryce Burnett

Picture
Description: Growing up ‘in ranching ways’ on the Prairies of southwest Saskatchewan, Bryce Burnett has put his pen to paper to proudly celebrate his heritage and the lifestyle he loves. Burnett’s cowboy poetry recollects his memories of homesteaders and characters in his region, as well as the animals and natural wonders that have affected him daily. Community events and family meals, trips to town and Sunday worship services, cattle encounters and the beauty of the fields, births and deaths, rodeos, cattle shows, and fishing trips all play a role in the life of a rancher. Burnett captures them all in his own style, often with a dash of humour.

Excerpts:
Responses from Readers:
  • "It’s lovely, delightful. It is similar in style to the poems written in Ireland that celebrate the local people and community there."
  • "I am so enjoying your book, Homegrown! Next stop for the book will be my dad. He is an old rancher and will appreciate 'Succession'. Another favourite of mine is 'The Measure of a Man', and I was that little kid in 'Grain Haulers'. 'Parts' is a hoot! I hope to hear you recite that one, Bryce."

Horses, Dogs and Wives. By Bryce Burnett

Picture
Description: It is said that a cowboy should be fulfilled if he’s had but three things in his life – a good horse, a good dog, and a loving wife. Bryce Burnett, a rancher and poet in southwestern Saskatchewan, builds on all three of these popular cowboy poetry topics in Horses, Dogs and Wives. He not only provides insights into his love of the land and various interactions with his favourite animals – horses and dogs – but he also comments on the joys and challenges of living and working with those of the opposite sex.
Burnett is well-known for his performances on the cowboy poetry circuit in Canada and the U.S.A. This anthology follows his award-winning first book, Homegrown and other poems, with yarns about the most fulfilling aspects of country-style living in the past and the present, doused with humility and capped with a generous dose of humour.
